3.2.20 February in Review

FEBRUARY, IN REVIEW

February has come and gone! And with it goes my first trip abroad, lots of progress on our teardrop trailer, and a couple of coloring gigs that have kept me busy before and after regular work hours. It was a grind…but a happy one. Onto March we go!

The Immortalists, by Chloe Benjamin — our second book club book! This fiction novel follows four siblings who learn, at a young age, what the day of their deaths will be and begs the question, would knowing the date of your death change the way you lived your life?

Stay With Me, by Ayobami Adebayo — a fiction novel about a young Nigerian couple and the lengths that they will go through in order to conceive and have a family. Lots of twists and turns and heartbreak in this one…

Watching:

I finally caught up on the latest season of Grace & Frankie on Netflix and breezed through the first season of a new Apple TV series, Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet. If you like Always Sunny, Community, and/or Modern Family, you might enjoy Mythic Quest, as they share a lot of the same writers and actors! I’m excited to see where they end up taking season 2.

While I’m still on a weaving hiatus, Dewey progress is plentiful! Check out my last two posts to get caught up if you’re not already!

Our freaking awesome house guest, Virgil, has been keeping us fed with the most delicious meals this month. Lots of seafood, too, which is my favorite 😉

Eating:

Some new places we’ve tried this month: Eat At Joe’s in Redondo Beach for breakfast burritos that have moved into our #2 spot! Sloopy’s in Manhattan Beach for some really really good sandwiches and probably the best plant decor I’ve seen in a good while. And Scotty’s On The Strand in Hermosa — although this isn’t a new place to us, we don’t go too often…which doesn’t make much sense because it sits right on the beach and has some really great breakfast options. We walked here for my “Welcome back to LA!” breakfast when I got back from London.

Local Explorations:

A friend and I took a Saturday morning to walk down to the beach and while we were down there, we made our way to a cute little handmade/vintage store that I’d been dying to go to for awhile now: Right Tribe in Manhattan Beach. It’s a cute little collection of gems and thrifted goods, as well as handmade leather and macrame items. It’s owned by the sweetest California couple.

Al surprised me this month with a fun little date night the night before Valentines Day! He took me to a Sofar Sounds concert — you can find these events all over the world! You basically submit for tickets for a date in an area of your choice. If you’re approved, you purchase your tickets and the day before the event, you’ll find out what the venue is. Venues range from people’s homes or backyards to coffee shops to art galleries (like ours was!). You show up and listen to three artists/bands perform original music. Bringing your own blankets or chairs and wine/beer is encouraged! It’s such a fun date night out because a) it costs pretty much the same as going to see a movie b) you’re supporting some really great up and coming artists that maybe you would have never heard about before and c) you might just discover a new part of town! It was really one of my favorite date nights ever … I think we’re going to make it a more regular thing in our lives. Check out Sofar Sounds website to find out what secret concerts are happening around you!

Traveling:

I took my first ever out-of-country trip this month! To London!! Some girlfriends and I are filming a documentary and a few of the subjects that we needed to interview were there. We had the most amazing week and things honestly could not have worked out better. I’ll share a separate post with some of the photos I took on our trip across the pond!

And finally, just wanted to share some photos of THE CUTEST bull terrier puppies my friend, Katelyn, has been fostering for the last month before they find their forever homes! Can you even handle their cute little eggheads!?! I lost my mind…

And then my own egghead, for good measure 😉

& that’s just a quick post for February!

thanks for stopping by!
